Spring Break - Jealous?

So far Spring Break has been awesome. Here are some of my awesome Spring Break Happenings:

1. Bachelorette Party in DC. I stayed up dancing till 3 am. Latest I've think I have EVER stayed up!

Pre-ordered our late night pizza. We are Pros

2. Went to NYC for a few days. We went on the Staten Island Ferry, walked for days, saw everything, ate breakfast with Katie, and had dinner with Syn. The weather was great and didn't start raining until right as we were leaving. Perfect!

First subway ride
Delish Ramen
NYC street snacks
Rockefeller Center
Ferris Wheel #thuglife
4D movie at the Central Park Zoo

3. The Open is done. This was my 3rd time doing the open and the best time I've had. Each workout was "one and done", there were no tears, no regrets, and lots of laughs. I'm glad I did it and was able to be smart about it. The Open is something different for everyone. For me it's learning how to push and care without taking things too seriously. I'm not going to Regionals as an Athlete. That's ok. That doesn't take away anything I've accomplished. I'm very proud of what I've done in these 2 years of Crossfit.

4. Signed up for a nutritional challenge that starts with body composition on April 9th through the gym. Gotta grow my muscles!

5. Beautiful weather = garage WOD today with Holly and Zach

3 rounds:
2:00 burpees
1:00 rest
2:00 max calorie row
1:00 rest
2:00 kettle bell swing
1:00 rest

score = total reps = 370

The best part? I still have half my spring break left!!!! WOOT WOOT!

NYC: Afrobrutality and Master Chef Junior

This weekend was a blast. We spent it in the car (boo) and in New York City. It took us a forever to get into the city - Friday afternoon traffic was sllllloooooooow. We hit the city around 7:30 and had dinner in Harlem with Syn of Afrobrutality.

We ate at Spaha Soul - Syn shut that joint down for our family to eat with him and a few friends. It was great. I had buttermilk fried chicken, collards, and mac n cheese. So yummy! Next time I get the spicy yams.....they looked delish.

This dude can cook - Super nice

Who forgets to snap a pic? Me. I suck.......next time we take pics!

Meeting up with Syn was awesome - but the main event of our NYC trip was so Sammy could audition for Master Chef Junior. He finished his cooking and interview on cloud 9. He cooked an egg, chopped some veggies, and measured water.  He did this all on his own - Sam sat with the other moms (hahahahaha)while Sammy did his thing. I don't care what happens now - he left feeling awesome about himself and had a huge smile all day! If he makes the cut we should hear this week. Fingers crossed!

Sammy went in feeling the love and support from friends, family, and school. His whole class made bracelets and wore them on Friday to support him (tear) - what a great community he has! Thanks guys!

Getting ready
Sam kept me in the loop as we hiked NYC
So beautiful

NYC at Christmas is amazing. So many lights. So many trees. So many people! Where do they all come from? Whew. Busy for sure! We walked a ton, saw lots of sights - including Santacon

So many Santas
Drunk at 9am

We gotta get back up to NYC soon - Syn mentioned an amazing pizza place that we NEED to go to. Girl's gotta eat.

In the mean time, it's cold outside. Get yourself a brutality sweatshirt for all your training and chillin needs.  Maybe "The People's Athlete" will have a shirt........stay tuned :)

I want the green one

Sum Sum Summatime ramblings........

I know, I know. You have missed me. I've missed you too! Summertime always sounds relaxing (that's right, I have the summer OFF), but I'm here to tell you that I am SUPER busy. Busy? Busy with what? Let me fill you in.....

Fourth of July was in Richmond. Super awesome.

Then we went to NYC with the kiddos - so much fun. We walked and walked and walked and I carried one 48 pound kiddo on my shoulders for most of it. Active rest day, right?

Dinner with Marilyn in NYC

Then there is the sweaty part of summer. Working out. Sam put together an amazing home gym for the times we can't get into Crossfit Annandale and so I can get my extra programming done (thanks to BLK Strength and Conditioning). No excuses to not workout. It's right there. Calling you. Making you get off the couch.

Boys are at Scout Camp this week. Getting bulls eyes, shooting clay pigeons, and taking nature by storm.

I've been using this "down time" to work on mental toughness, letting things go (stopping a workout and doing it a different day/time is NOT quitting....right?), and not taking things too seriously. Easy, right? Nope. I don't like to let people down, I don't like to let myself down - but sometimes things are out of your control. There are days when 45# feels like 10#......and then there are days when your shorts are too tight, 10# feels like 100#, it's too hot, legs feel like lead.......... Those are the days that I need to read this gem:

I love to cheer-lead others. I LOVE it. Cheering and pumping up a friend to complete a workout, push harder, run faster, lift heavier.....I live for it. Weird how I have a hard time doing it for myself. Something I'm working on, but it's baby steps for sure.

I have big dreams. HUGE. I love what I do. Being a mom/wife, speech therapist, and crossfitter. I think I balance it all well most of the time. Every once in a while a slip up and need to readjust. That's life. Readjust. Shake it off. Keep moving forward. Nothing happens over night. No one is perfect.

love this one

If you run into me this summer there is a HUGE chance I will be in IABM apparel. I got a big ol box of shirts from them today (thanks guys!!!!) and will be sporting their super soft shirts for DAYZ. Their shirts are also a great length - no belly bearing thrusters for this girl!

So excited to add these to my collection!

I have also been working on a #jackedandtanplan. I've pretty much nailed the tan. Next week at the beach will clench that. The jacked? I'm working on it. This week has been fairly clean eating, next week is the beach (rules are OFF), then when we get back Sam and I are hitting the #jacked hard!

Hope everyone is having a great summer!!!!!
