I'm so immature.....

Now that I'm done with week 3 of Crossfit I'm feeling like a pro, at least that's what I tell myself when I'm too sore to move and need to get back to being tortured. What has me giggling? Crossfit words. Heheheeheh

Snatch - hehhehehehehe. Makes me giggle every time
Thruster - uh, thrust, thruster, hahahhahah
WOD (pronounced wad) - WOD of what?
Clean and Jerk - again, giggles
Box - I'm too immature to do this.......

Of course when in the zone I try not to let my immaturity show. I keep the giggles in - unless Sam is by me. If  he's close then the giggles tend to be contagious.

We just got back from Super H Mart (Asian grocery store) where we did our Paleo-ish shopping for the week. Tons of veggies, fruit, and meats and spent $108. Pretty excited since our weekly grocery budget was $200 and we've been looking for ways to cut it down. Sundays is also free sample day. It's my fav - who doesn't love to walk around and try free Korean food? It was a little crowded, but totally worth it for the great produce and cheap prices.

I picked up a Naked Coconut water to drink on the way home. I've seen this coconut water floating around so much lately. If you know me I have a slight obsession with coconut. I LURVE it. In everything - lotion, bars, smoothies, chocolate.......yum! One serving has more potassium than a banana - and I've got to think less sugar than one. I did really like it and only 60 calories a box (hehehehehe, there's that word again). They have a few different flavors, but I went Pure for my first tasting. There was mango, Lychee (not even sure what that is), and Pineapple.

I did let my peeps (we've emailed therefore they are my peeps) at Skratch Labs about adding a coconut flavor. I do LOVE their pineapple flavor. It's my new favorite and I love how I don't feel gross drinking it after a really hard workout.

I'm going to try and make my own coconut butter next. Wish me luck!

Christmas foodies

The boys were great during our multiple course Christmas dinner
Nanna made programs that had all the Carols we were going to sing. It's funny how many I needed the words for.
Wine bar and dinner menu. I visited it frequently to refresh my drink and check on the next course
Palate cleanser. Lemon sorbet with candied lemon. Yum!
The Christmas Dinner menu
Crab salad with marinated cucumbers in a romaine leaf. Delish
Mason decorated and Sammy wrote all the place cards.
Prime Rib was the star of the night. So delish
We had a full house and so much fun
Getting our instructions on "singing for our supper". I thought it was going to be super cheesy, but it was pretty fun
Sammy's favorite. Cucumbers with fish roe. I know, he's weird.

Christmas dinner was great and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Lucky for us we live .3 miles down the road from my in-laws so the trip home was easy peasy. I'm not going to lie, I was in bed by 8:30 and sound asleep soon after. Christmas really wears you out!

An early Christmas gift and Skratch Product Review

I got my first gift. Crossfit shoes!
That made getting the WOD done a MUST! I had to show OFF those new kicks. We did the 12 Days of Christmas WOD. It sounded much worse than it was, but the most sweaty I've been after a workout. Glad it's done.

The new kicks are great! They are really comfortable and most importantly they look cool. I'm pretty sure I moved faster today. You can even custom make them - which I will be doing when I need a new pair.

During and after the work out I sipped on Skratch.Last week I drank the Orange flavor and today I chose Raspberry. Now, if you like Gatorade (bleh) or anything else that is syrupy during or after a workout you may need time to get used to Skratch. It's all natural, nothing artificial, with actual fruit flavors. I was initially surprised by the orange because I was expecting that syrupy flavor - but it just tastes like a slice of orange was floating around in there. The drink was actually refreshing and didn't sit heavy in my belly. I have lemon lime and pineapple to try.....I'm pretty intrigued by the pineapple. I wish they had a coconut one (hint hint). Sam and I are trying to be more aware of what we are eating - not so focused on calories, fat, etc....but chemicals. I'm much happier knowing that there is an electrolyte drink out there that is all natural and low in calories that tastes good. Other thing I loved? That they come in single sticks. I often don't have time to deal with the big ol bag of powder....sticks are where it's at. I will be ordering more and I will have to get their cookbook too.

Merry Christmas Eve!

Balls and Burpees

Week 2 of Crossfit is done! I've completed a total of 7 WOD's and could not be more addicted or sore.

This week I have learned that if I drop anything it's going to stay there a while (quads are SORE), Mason will only get in the top bunk by ladder as my shoulders do not have the ability to lift him up there, and I'm tougher than I thought. That last one really puts a smile on my face.

What's got me sore this week? Burpees and Wall Balls

Burpees. Where do I even start? The Saturday WOD had me do 50, split up anyway I needed to. I started with sets of 10 and the last two sets were sets of 5. I have found with Burpees you just have to keep going. If I pause on the ground or once I'm on my feet my brain might not let me keep going. They are the devil.

Wall balls. Ugh, they look innocent, but they SUCK. One exercise that can actually make you sore from head to toe. First time doing them Saturday, had to do 75. 75!

From Google search. Pretty sure a pic of me doing them would not be very beautiful

Found this in my Google searching this am - pretty hilarious

Today is a rest day, baking day, cleaning day, organizing day - Wait, did I start by saying "Rest day"? It's funny when you become a mom, work full time, and work out regularly how much your definition of "Rest day" changes. Before kids my rest day was on the couch and watching a Lord of the Rings marathon. That feels like a long time ago.

Have a wonderful holiday!

It's the little things......

A week of firsts. They aren't really big deals, but the first time you do anything you need to celebrate it, right?? I say "Hell Yeah!"

1. My first Kate Spade purchase. In LOVE.

2. My first time having re-heated chicken (aka. leftovers)....AND I liked it! I know, I'm weird. I have weird chicken issues. I blame my vegetarian mom.

3. No pic, you just have to take my word for it. I did my first double unders at Crossfit last night! Wha-hoooo! I did three in a row, then one, then I just couldn't get the rhythm back. I was pretty proud.

4. Sammy's first burpee. He also attempted a wall walk - I will save that for a later time :)

Me, in a nutshell:

Strong is the New Skinny

Who wants to get me this????????

Week 1 of Crossfit. Whew! Who knew? It's HARD!!!!!!!!!! I did my intro WOD last Saturday, then WODs on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday. They were all tough, very different, and awesome. I'm totally hooked. I'm also totally sore. Sam and I even came up with the Crossfit hug (patent pending). You just stand tummy to tummy because your arms don't work.

I overcame some fears through my first week of Crossfit. First, I went to Crossfit without Sam (I still had a friend meet me, I'm not that brave). I have a tendency to let Sam break the ice for me with new people. Of course, then I sweep in with hilarious comments. Second, I did my first WOD without puking. I'm terrified of puking. I'm thrown up a total of 5 times since I was a kid. No joke. I hate it. So puking during a workout, in a gym, in front of strangers? Nope. Not this girl. Third, I did wall walks. Push up position, feet walk up the wall, and the idea is to eventually get so close you can kiss the wall. No make out sessions for me....yet. I'll slip that wall the tongue soon enough - wont even know what hit em!

This week we are eating Paleo for dinner each night. Getting used to Paleo now and so far so good. I've cheated a few times: margarita, red wine, peeps. Each one completely justified and delicious.

This weeks dinner menu. Jealous? It's awesome, dry erase marker, and easy for Chef Sam to see and follow. Don't worry, we did eat Sunday - but I wrote the menu Sunday night, so seemed silly to fill it in.

We also took the boys out to look at the neighborhood lights. Their "MiniVan Express" tickets were a hit. We did Christmas music, popcorn, and fuzzy jammies. To be young at Christmas time.....the best!

I will leave you with this delicious treat: chocolate dipped peppermint peep. What?!

Product review coming soon from Skratch Labs. I'm pretty excited about it. I've heard alot about them. They also have The Feed Zone Cookbook - check it out!

So, I finally figured out  my picture issues. You missed out on our Thanksgiving - I know you are all DYING to know what Team Hardman did....so here it is.

Who doesn't love a farm animal made out of butter?

Making mini pies

Tipsy Rudolph. Thank you pinterest

My sister made these gingerbread whoopie pies. They have crack in them, I'm sure of it.

Frying the turkey. Manly men
My mom and I did a turkey trot too. It was cold. I did get to wear my new New Balance freezing cold weather jacket. It has pink reflectors, the hand protector, and it was super warm without suffocating me.
Good job New Balance, good job.

Next year for Thanksgiving we are going somewhere tropical. The whole house got the flu, back to back. It never ended. It was awful. We are going to escape to an all-inclusive, no viruses allowed, awesome resort. Can't. Wait.

Crossfit Newbie

It's official. Sam and I have joined a Crossfit Gym and even though everything hurts - we are LOVING it!

Our first WOD (workout of the day) was last Sunday. It was hard, but not too scary. The next day was painful....but in a good way. I went Tuesday night and Sam went Wednesday night for our second WOD. It was scary but I loved it!

I spent most of last night making some Paleo friendly foods. Dinner was steamed kale and spicy shrimp. Breakfast this morning was egg cups with sausage, water, coffee. Lunch will be peppers, snap peas, and left over spicy shrimp. I'm doing my 3rd WOD tonight (eek!).

I would love any Crossfit/Paleo websits or blogs that people like. I've just started reading PaleOMG (sent to me by a friend) and it's hilarious!

Pictures oh Pictures

So, I haven't posted in a month because Google is telling me I have no more storage space to upload pictures. Well, what's a good blog without pictures!?

I'm not sure what to do now. Is there a way to get rid of old pictures or put pictures up without paying for more space? Because that's what they want me to do, pay for more space. Not sure that's going to happen.

Any thoughts????

8 years and still going

Tuesday was our 8 year wedding anniversary. We've been dying to go to Rosa Mexicano for a while and we finally made it happen! They have 1/2 off margaritas ans apps from 4-7 and the menus looked great!

Dropped the boys off with Nanna and Pop Pop

Driving up to National Harbor

Gonna have to try this restaurant

First drink, a margarita

So delicious!

Pork belly and diver scallop taco. So delish

Cheese fondu with Chorizo on top

That guacamole did not stand a chance!
Then we changed locations. We realized we needed to walk away from the margaritas. There was a restaurant down the street called Bond 45. The menu was EXPENSIVE so we just drank - that would come back to haunt us. They had prohibition style drinks and served them to you in tea pots. So much fun!

HEMINGWAY DAIQUIRI
Bacardi rum, maraschino liqueur, fresh grapefruit, fresh lime juice

The drink was SOOOO good.

She is clearly a superstar. She never took her sunglasses off

WHISKEY SMASH
Maker’s Mark, orange curaƧao, mint, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup

We had such a great night. We picked the boys up and everyone was asleep by 8:30! I was exhausted the next day - and all this week! Totally worth it
