What's your running mantra?

I think it was in a Runner's World that they did a write up on running mantras. Most of them did not apply to me (they were written by elite runners). I would giggle saying half of them -  "i'm the fastest one out here" - blah blah blah.

I do have one though. Can't remember where I got it, but I wrote it down and keep it in my wallet. I don't say it over and over - but I say it to remind myself of how far I've come and that I need to keep going.

"I do not run. I am a runner."

I love it. It sums it up perfectly for me. What else is there to say? That's all I need. Or so I thought. :)

My Tri Coach - Coach R - has one too. He even got it tatooed on his leg. I've started using it too, as it really gets me through rough moments.

"HTFU" (harden the fuck up)

It makes me laugh, it makes me not take myself so seriously, it makes me push, it makes me through being a weenie out the window.

What's your mantra? What do you say to yourself to get moving?

  3. The faster you move, the sooner you'll be done. Stop whining and just do it.

  4. I like the one from the article, "You can do it fast or slow, it all hurts the same!"

  5. My mantra - especially on COLD winter mornings or when I'm feeling especially tired is: "You will never regret a run but will always regret NOT running"
